Role of the Law Society of British Columbia

Established in 1869, the Law Society of British Columbia regulates BC’s more than 12,000 lawyers. The Law Society’s primary responsibility under the provincial Legal Profession Act is to uphold and protect the public interest in the administration of justice.

The Law Society works to ensure that the public is well served by an honourable, competent and independent legal profession. The Law Society sets, supports and enforces standards of professional conduct for lawyers; and works to enhance access to justice and the delivery of legal services in BC.
